Even though he didnt mention it, Serafina was thinking about his wife. She wondered if he'd excluded her from his life story on purpose. Before she could ask the waiter came and she waited while he ordered.
"Me?" She was surprised. Not too many people wanted to know her life story. "Well I... i've known about the family buisness my whole life although i've never been told details. My father has been the controller of my life until he handed me over to my husband. My mother left when I was just a little girl and I went away to a private girl school until I was sixteen. Then I met Giovanni and... well... thats it." She shrugged. It was ironic that both of their life stories ended with meeting Giovanni.

"If you hadn't met Giovanni, what did you want to do?" He asked her. If he hadn't gotten into the family business he wanted to move to Greece where nobody knew of him or his father and live off a boat. He always had a passion for sailing and always knew that if business one day didn't go as planned then he would end up with his original plan, he worked to make sure of it.

Serafina stared at him as if he had asked her the strangest question in the world before she looked down at the table between them. “I don’t know. At school I just wanted to have fun. I liked to go out and have fun with the other girls, but then my father wanted me to come home. My older brother had died and I was the only heir left. I hate him for it, and I hated my step mom even more because she wanted to teach me how to be the perfect wife for a man…”
In the end, her stepmother won. It only took one day for Serafina’s will power to be broken. As much as you hated to admit it, she didn’t have a high tolerance for pain…
“I guess if it hadn’t been Giovanni it would have been some other eligible young man my father liked…”

He listened to her speak and was immediately able to connect with what she was saying. He felt obligated to his family to take care of what needed to be done. Their drinks were brought to them. He took his coffee black but added a few packets of the real sugar, none of that fake stuff. She had been groomed to be the wife of a powerful and eligible mobster. "Didn't you want to be anything though, I mean what did you used to do for fun? what were you interested in?" He asked her curiously.

Lifting the cup to her lips, she smiled at Luciano past the rim, and her smirk was something like the ones she had when she was a young girl, carefree and playful...
"Yes. I had a dream. It was to be a princess in a castle like in the fairytales. But I believed that dream ended when I was seven and I saw a man shot dead in my home by my father."
She took a drink then and set the cup down. "Dreams are for children Luciano. People like you and I cant afford to have dreams."

"Well I think you would have made a very beautiful princess." He said with a smile as he to drank his coffee. Dreams are for children Luciano. People like you and I cant afford to have dreams "See thats where I think your wrong, I mean my dream of one day retiring and sailing around the world is the only thing that keeps me going sometimes." He told her as he picked up another sugar packet and began playing with it.

Serafina again flushed slightly and she looked down into her latte. "Thank you..." Her lips puckered slightly before she went on, "I suppose you're right. I do dream that my sons will grow up to be happy and healthy..."
She listened to him go on about sailing around the world, and the story intruiged her. "And... would you take your wife and children with you?" She asked slowly, more bringing them into the conversation just because it felt indecent not to...

"If she doesn't leave me first." He told her as he looked down into his coffee before picking it up and drinking from it. He always had a feeling that he would end up without her, thats why when he found out she was pregnant he had a hard time to accept it. He just thought that he would up single in the end even though he couldn't see himself married to anyone except for Abela. He loved her with everything he had.

That struck a cord with Serafina. More than once she'd thought about leaving the life she had, but she could never do that to her sons. She knew how it would feel.
But hypocritically she found herself disgusted with this woman that would leave Luciano, a man who lived his life to protect (at least thats how she thought about it.)
"Why would she leave you?!" She asked, her shock showing. She couldnt see why any woman would want to leave Luciano.

He shook his head, "I guess it probably has to do with the fact that i'm a workaholic...the night I proposed to Abela I came straight from a job, I was sweaty and my shirt was all bloody, it was the first night she found out what business I was in as well. I just feel like one day i'm not gonna be enough and she's gonna get smart and leave me." He told her. He didn't know why she had stayed with him as long as she had.

Serafina looked sorry for him. “I’m sure that’s not true. I have a husband who is away all the time, and even though he’s let me down more times than I can count, I love him. I’ll always love him and be faithful to him. And I’m sure your wife is the same way.”
Feeling real sympathy, she reached over and put her hand on top of his, giving him a smile. So quickly she forgot about her own problems when other people were suffering…

He rubbed the side of her hand with his thumb as he looked over at her with a small smile. He didn't let it show but the mere touch of her hand against his was taking over his mind. "It's hard sometimes you know, I feel like they aren't even my kids...I missed most of the firsts."He told her. He had missed their first steps, when they began to speak, and their first haircuts.

Serafina continued to look at him with sympathy. When he rubbed over her hand with his thumb, it felt strangly natural. Her husband liked to touch her, but the small things like this were what made her shiver inside.
She couldnt help but let her mind dwell on the touch either, even though she tried to simply go on with the conversation.
"It is alright. My first son never knew his father until he was five years old, and now he adores him more than anything. You can make up for lost time."

"I hope so, my boys are both still young but now with everything turning hectic between the families, I don't know when the next time I will be able to go out there and see them."He mentioned off handedly. He looked down at their hands and then back up to her. He found himself mesmerized by her eyes.

Serafina thought for a moment before she spoke, "You can go whenever you want. I will speak to my husband and tell him he must let you go. Perhaps while he and I have the week we renew our vows?"
