Names, chicken, politics, certain topics of conversation to avoid…
All this went through Serafinas mind. Over and over, she mentally prepped herself for the dinner party that would be held within her home that evening. No. Not her home. Don Gionvanni’s home.
Names, chicken, politics…
More and more it seemed that Serafina’s thoughts turned back to the fact that nothing in her life truly was hers. Not her house, not her clothing, not even her sons…
Names, chicken…
While she sat in front of the lighted vanity table, wearing nothing but her slip and a black lace bra, Sarafina took her hair in her hands and arranged it carefully atop her head. She frowned, not liking the way it looked and let the brunette tresses fall down around her bare shoulders again.
Names…
Frowning at her reflection, she had a small panic attack inside, knowing if she didn’t look perfect tonight then… then what? What would happen if she wasn’t her husbands perfect wife?
These thoughts on her mind, she looked past her own reflection in the mirror to see if he was there in the bedroom…
She’d loved him once. And sometimes she knew she still did. But inwardly she had never forgiven him for leaving her as a young, pregnant, bride for five years and then turning into a man much like the father she hated…

Giovanni lounged in his chair in the backyard, facing the pool and the Bocchi court. He was sipping a glass of wine and smoking a cigarette. He checked his watch and wondered where Serafina was. She's probably still upstairs getting ready he thought, she seemed miffed at him lately and he didn't know why. Perhaps it was because of the death of her father Alphonse no more than three months ago, but who knows? Giovanni had better things to do than try to figure out the many things that went through his wife's mind. Giovanni drained his glass, and snubbed the cigarette out under his shoe and stood up. He was going to see where Serafina was. He entered the house, and made a left, he headed up the stairs. He stopped at their bedroom, and knocked on the door. "Serafina? Are you busy?"

She had stopped getting ready altogether, simply staring at her reflecting while she ran her fingers through her hair and thought about things.
Her husbands voice was like a lightning strike and Serafina jumped while turning towards the door. Her lips parted slightly as her mind raced for the perfect answer.
"I'm almost ready!" She called before she turned and started to pin up her hair again. She didnt care if he came in or not. She wasn’t shy despite her immodest state.

Giovanni heard her anwser "I'm almost ready!" and waited a few seconds before opening the door. He entered the room, and saw her still in the process of getting ready, and he smiled and said "Still getting ready? Well, Frank Ventresca and a few of his Associates will be here soon, so no rush and just come down whenever you are ready."
*Sorry for the short post. Ah, well the story must go on.

She looked at him through the reflection in the mirror, her hands pinning and holding strands of her hair in place rather hastily.
Listening to what he had to say, she nodded once and looked back at herself in the mirror. Finishing she rushed into the closet and reached for the gown she'd chosen for that night weeks ago.
Then she wondered if maybe he’d left and she peeked her head around the corner of the closet to see while she reached into the jewelry box for a set of elaborate gold earrings.
The gown was a golden satin with a silky black overlay. It draped lower in the front and even lower in the back. She’d look much like an Egyptian queen that night…

Giovanni had left after she had nodded her head, for his phone began to ring, and when he anwsered it it was Frank. As was customary, Frank had to park down the street from the Capra Mansion, and Giovanni ordered one of his so called "Palace Guards" to drive down the street and pick up Frank and bring him to the mansion. On the phone, Frank informed Giovanni that they were at the mansion and were just waiting for him to come out. Giovanni went down the stairs and exited to the front of the mansion where he greeted Frank and the two men Frank brought with him. Frank ran numerous Capra Gambling operations and was a powerful ally to Giovanni. Giovanni motioned for Frank to follow him to the backyard by the pool.

By the time Giovanni and Frank reached the pool Sarafina was ready. She waited by the pool with her cherry smile and bright blue eyes. Blending in with the scene, she waited until acknowledged before she spoke.
"It's so nice to see you again." She knew Frank, although she didnt know exactly what he did or how he was important, but he meant something to Giovanni and so he was important to her.
"Could I offer you something to drink?"

When Giovanni, Frank, and the others came around to the back of the house near the pool, Serafina was already there and waiting. Giovanni turned his head and mumbled something to Frank, who smiled at Serafina and said "Serafina. Nice to see you again, and if you don't mind, I'll just take whatever you have to drink." Giovanni still stood standing, even when Frank and his two associates sat down. Giovanni began to talk "So Frank tell me. Who are your two friends? Are they the two Zips you were talking about? Fabrizio and...Luciano?" Frank nodded and replied "Yes, as a matter of fact they are. We, have recently noticed the Falcone Family is coming closer and closer to New York. We keep telling Paolo to back down, but he believes since he married your cousin Crocetta he can do whatever he pleases." Giovanni didn't anwser immediatly, for he lit another cigarette and took a puff from it.

Serafina stayed nearby although she supposed it didn’t matter if she stayed or not. She strolled near the pool and looked down into the water for a moment before her ears picked up the conversations. She knew about the Falcones and the sound made her stomach clench a little. If their names were involved in anything it most likely meant guns and blood…
Her eyes drifted across the pool a little and she saw a Italian youth in a stylish but cheep black suit. No doubt one of Franks shadow men, a young man of eighteen or nineteen, probably someone’s nephew from Sicily…
Unlike the other men, he didn’t seem to be paying attention to the men talking, but to her. His head bowed, a shy smile on his face, he dare let his eyes wander slightly over the wife of one of the most powerful men in the tri state area.
His guts alone made Serafina smile back softly and allow him to look. Afterall wasn’t that what she was for anyway?

Giovanni let out the smoke, and continued. Choosing his words carefully "Paolo...is...a powerful foe, but he has no claim to the Falcone Family. He is not the Don, and anything he does would need to be cleared with the Falcone head. We have nothing to fear from him...for now." Giovanni took another puff.
*Gah, another short post. Oh well, next post will be longer.

Walking back past the men, Serafina poured a glass of wine. On the other side of the group the young Italian mirrored her movements and she smiled against the delicate edge of the glass. He seemed truly infatuated.
Her curiosity got the better of her and she wondered what would happen if she walked a few paced behind the nearby pillars and out of sight of the men...
After she set down her empty glass she started to stroll in that direction.

Frank began to talk some more, and Giovanni listened closely. Apparently, a Falcone hit squad had murdered three Capra Soldiers while they were eating at a local resteraunt. Giovanni groaned and thought to himself What is going on in Paolo's mind? Giovanni snubbed out his cigarette again, and began to pace back and forth, Why is Paolo acting like this? he thought again. Giovanni didn't know, but there was something fishy going on. He walked over to one of the Zips, and pulled out a gun, and quickly fired three shots into the man's chest. Fabrizio let out a gasp and then he slid sideways off the chair and landed on the ground dead. Frank looked shocked and angered, but Giovanni raised a hand and said "Fabrizio Mastroianni was on the Falcone payroll. My ties in the FBI sent me over paperwork yesterday, which included pictures of him with numerous Falcone mobsters. He didn't know he was being watched, he was a traitor. Frank, can you personally vouch for Luciano?" Demanded Giovanni pointing at Luciano.

Serafina heard the shot and whirled around. She'd almost jumped out of her skin. She watched the blood spatter and the body hit the ground, and part of her wanted to scream. Another part of her wanted to throw herself at Giovanni and hit him. How dare he?! How dare he bring the gore and violence of his life so near their young sons?!
It was too much like her childhood, and that was something she didnt want to have happen to her own kids.
Angery and nervous, she turned suddenly to walk through the glass paneled doors, the nearest doors she could make an exit through. She didn’t want anyone to see how upset she actually was.
Turning a corner, she leaned back against the wall and put her hands to her face, breathing deeply and forcing back the angry tears that threatened to come...

Giovanni pulled back the hammer of the gun and cocked it, and pointed it at Luciano. Frank stood up and said "Gio, listen to me, Luciano is with us. I'm sorry about Fabrizio, I guess I was wrong about. Just calm down and put the gun down." Giovanni nodded, and tossed the gun onto a nearby chair, and nodded. Giovanni motioned with his head towards Fabrizio's lifeless body, and Frank got the message. Giovanni looked around, but Luciano was nowhere in sight. Where was he?

After a long moment, Sarafina was finally able to regain her composure, although she was still rather shaken up. She’d seen men die before, but not that suddenly and not by the hand of Giovanni. Death really wasn’t something that should shock her, but for some reason it still did. She only hoped her sons hadn’t been able to see…
Pausing to walk by a mirror and checking her reflection, she took a detour through the house and gracefully moved towards the back patio again to join the gentlemen.
As she walked by a window, she brushed back the curtains only to see that they were missing not only the dead man, but the one who had been studying her as well. She frowned and looked around for him, bighting her lower lip...
