NYPD Ranks: Police Commisioner- The highest rank you can achieve as an officer. The Commissioner controls all local police forces.Chief Of Police- The seventh highest rank you can achieve as an officer. The Chief of Police controls a local precinct.Deputy Chief- The sixth highest rank you can achieve as an officer. The Deputy Chief works with the Chief of Police.Captain- The fifth highest rank you can achieve as an officer. The Captain controls a small group of officers.Lieutenant- The fourth highest rank you can achieve as an officer. The Lieutenant is an important police figure, but must anwser to every one above him, and doesn't really control anybody except those of lower rank.Seargent- The third highest rank you can achieve as an officer. The Seargent controls only those of lower rank and must anwser to all those of higher rank.Corporal- The second highest rank you can achieve as an officer. A Corporal has little authority among the police force.Officer- The lowest rank you can achieve as an officer. An Officer has little or no power in the police force and must anwser to every officer ahead of him or her in rank.
