Personality:
Cesare is everything you could ever wish for a Consigliere to be – charismatic, suave and a talented negotiator. Ninety percent of the time, he will take the diplomatic route in a tough situation, and the other ten percent… well, that is when all else fails and civilised conversation won’t work, and other methods are used. Definitely cunning, some say sly, he has a very cool head under pressure, and much prefers a physiological approach to humiliating his rivals rather than a violent one.
However, this Consigliere isn’t without downfalls to match his skills. Once he discovered his intelligence and wit were useful at the Poker and Black Jack tables, he soon became hooked on gambling. Although very good at it, hence the nickname ‘money bags’, there are times when his confidence get the better of him, and he blows a lot of cash on big stakes. Not wanting to admit these mistakes to himself nor anyone else, he keeps his debts as a complete secret, despite struggling with payments now and then.
Appearance:
Cesare stands around six foot one inches tall and carries an aura of charisma about him. Being of pure Sicilian descent, his skin is slightly bronzed and his eyes are fairly dark. His hair is also dark brown and fashionably messy, with rugged stubble to match, and he rarely wears anything other than a clean, sharp suit. He has a thing for expensive watches, ranging from silver to gold, and infrequently wears the same one two days running. He some how manages to look a million dollars, despite not always having the money to spare
Background:
Cesare was born in Brooklyn, as part of a pure Sicilian family-tree, to Antonio Barratta II, a Provenzano mobster, and his wife Maria. He was the second of two sons, the first being Anthony, born a few years prior to Cesare. As a child, he was brought up around the mafia life, surrounded by dozens of ‘uncles and aunties’ and plenty of other children to play with at big family get-togethers. There were good times and there were bad times, just like any other normal family.
When Cesare was around five years old, his father Antonio was arrested during a dawn raid and sentenced to ten years incarceration for drug trafficking. Anthony was left to teach his younger brother the things their father would otherwise, and their mother was devastated. Of course, she knew what her husband got up to with the Provenzanos, but she never thought he would get caught for it, nor jailed for a decade.
When Antonio was released a couple of years short of a decade later, his sons were in their teenage years. The jail time hadn’t disheartened his loyalty to the family at all, and he was excited to introduce his sons to the world that had put him behind bars. To begin with, he started to bring them to a few poker games, where he would talk business in a cigar-smoke-filled back room with other suited Sicilians. To Anthony, it was primarily boring, but Cesare found the poker nights entertaining, and it wasn’t long before he started to play himself, and wasn’t all too bad compared to the veterans he was surrounded by.
The transition from observer to participant in the Provenzano family hierarchy came naturally from that point on. Cesare and Anthony would work small jobs as they got older, small-time extortions and drug distribution. Anthony was certainly more of a hot-head than his younger brother, and resorted to beatings when he didn’t get his own way. Cesare, however, was quite the diplomat, and managed to smooth-talk his way out of a few sticky situations.
Cesare fell in love with a Sicilian girl named Elettra. The two produced a child at the young age of 20 and were married in a lavish ceremony. Although they were young, they had the support of the Provenzanos, the Barratta's and the Azzaras, huge family's consisting of many relatives willing to share the load in the upbringing of their daughter Fortunata. Regrettably, Cesare didn't spend as much time as he wanted with his wife and child, but at least payed the bills and certainly provided a lot of extra money for shopping sprees.
Cesare’s obvious talents were what allowed him to head up the ranks in leaps and bounds, while Anthony was creeping at a slow place. Eventually, Cesare became the Consigliere to Bobby Lombardo. When Lombardo was arrested and continued to run the family from prison, Cesare often visited him to check on his progress. Being the intelligent observer that he was, Cesare wasn’t happy about the way Bobby was acting, and sensed that he would likely crack under the pressure and rat out the family. Cesare was the one to convince the rest of the family to send out contracts on Lombardo and his family.
Now, with the title of Don of The Provenzano Crime Family open, Cesare has taken to the role of organising the family himself. One part of him wishes to take control completely, where the other wishes for him to remain as Consigliere and let somebody else take the pressure. He was born and raised for great things, but considering the history of the Provenzano Dons, it will take quite a lot of thought…
